Monsignor Leo Cleary Elementary School Library is quite lively. It houses approximately 8,500 books, magazines and 10 computers. The library is open for 15 hours each week and each class is scheduled once a week for 30-40 minutes as their Library time. All students are encouraged and welcome to use the Library anytime there is not a class scheduled. Each class from grade 2 up have also received passes so they can work on projects and catch up on homework in the Library during lunch or recess. We usually host a Scholastic Book Fair in November. This year we were able to pick quite a few books from the fair with a little money to spare. Mid January we plan to start the Blue Spruce program. This program promotes Canadian authors of picture books which will be read to the Kindergarten to grade 2/3 classes. After we have completed all the books we will vote on which one we liked best. It is fun and promotes reading. We also have an enthusiastic group of grade 6/7 students that are "Library Helpers". These students are scheduled every other week for 15-20 minutes to help with whatever needs to be done to help the Library Support Staff. These extra hands are greatly appreciated.
